Talking Thought this was a bit interesting...

Honestly, I'm not that big a fan of the new RX-8, but if I needed a brand new car I think I'd stick to rotary and grab me a RX-8.

Anyway, I was purchacing some parts from Mazda and picked up a RX-8 accessory booklet. In this booklet I found something interesting... Take a look

Now, since when did the RX-8 come with clutch-less option?

FS

P.S. Sorry about the glare--my scanner does not work atm so I just used my digi cam!

Ok--Just took a few more pictures and got one that has less glare. From this picture, you should see that it has a huge foot rest, but no clutch! Just a large typical-automatic-pedal-size pedal!

I don't know much about the RX-8, but I know a lot of cars have automatic shifters that look a lot like 5-speeds. It's to fool people into thinking that the owner has a stick

I thought the RX-8 had a 5 or 6 speed auto too? or something cool like that?

One of the RX-8 concept cars came with A SMG transmission. (A manual transmission car with a computer controlled clutch) Thats probably what its from. Many high end european cars use SMG. And there is a rumor that mazda may eventually add a SMG as an option to the RX-8.

Whoa, SMG in a car from Japan? I know BMW has taken up SMG in the M3, but I didn't think Japan would do such a thing!

Who's got more info on this SMG RX-8?

Also, when I carefully examine the brochure, I can see the H shift pattern display on the top of the shifter ****--there's enough detail that I can see 1st through 6th gear plus a reverse!

Most likely that is the automatic version of the car.

Here are some more pictures from this special edition RX-8 road & track I got today. (It was free...came in the mail)

Any RX-8 I have seen has been a stick, and the clutch peddel and the break peddel look to be about the same size.

This could be what you are seeing

Then from my pic (look at the second one--almost glare free), the clutch and brake pedals would take almost half of the room at your feet! I think this was a model car or something and they just goofed on that part.
