Thinking of buying 1st gen? Things to look for?

So, I sold my big HP FD then bought another FD with that money. I was hit and hurt bad by a drunk driver which totaled my car. Sucked cause I only had liabilty insurance theefore I saw no money. Now I'm leaving for the military in Nov. but need a good daily driver until then. I found a 83 GSL for 1,300 but I know i could barter him down. He says its in really good shape, and runs like a top although it has 124k on it. I know on an FD thats really high miles, wht about on a FB? Im going to go look at this car this weekend. What are some generation specific things I should look for on this car? Thanks for the help!

lots of these have rust but they vary in severity...i say have a gooooooood thorough look on rust damage if any...places to look are the rear wheel wells and front steering/suspension area...

Also look under the storage bins (take them out) for rust. A FD at that amount of miles would prolly need a rebuild because it is turboed, but a FB is N/A, so 120k miles is nothing!

RUST....try to get a compression test done on the engine...check under the car for rust although since u live in denver i don't think there will be any....83 GSL's are great cars go for it....try to get the price down a bit....see if the power window motor is workin....cuz mine was workin except the right side one gets stuck a bit prolly needs some new grease....good luck with this one

later,
Gufran

I believe you'd be looking for around 80 to 110 psi. I believe a brand new rotary should produce 110 or 120 psi. Also, I think the difference between the chambers cannot exceed 25 psi. These numbers are off the top of my head, so they might not be right...
