is there a "thermostat" in the oil cooler?

is there a "thermostat" in the oil cooler?

whats up yall.
is there a thermostat in the oil cooler, or is it called a "thermo pellet"? how do you know for sure it works, and what happens if you remove that thing???..or is it best to replace those things one and a while?

I assume your talking about the air to oil style cooler, yes there is a therm pellet in the bottom. Its the large bolt on the bottom of the cooler right under the lines. Not sure how often you need to replace it though, if ever.

If you remove it, you have to plug the passage or oil will just bypass the cooler all the time. The racers block it with a bolt. Trouble is if you dont wait for the oil to warm up b4 you drive it, you'll starve it for oil cause the cold thick oil wont flow thru the cooler very well.

well, i'm assuming that the thermal pellet can go bad, just like anything else ...

in that case, how would you troubleshoot something like that? or is it one of those shituations where you only know it's bad after you toss a motor?

Without an oil temp gauge you really wouldnt know till it was too late. And yes they can go bad.

can any of you describe this thermal pellet thing? i mean, i know what it does (at least, i think i do), but how does it work and how is it constructed? is it something that can be replaced by itself? does Mazda have ones for bypassing at different temperatures?
