yea there should be one, and you should run a fuel filter or 2 even.

There is a fuel filter under the car at the left rear behind the axle.

The 1985 workshop manual says nothing about a strainer in the tank.

fuel strainers tend to block after 20 years aswell, all this changing the fuel filter, and its probly got to do with the fuel strainer in the tank.

my 85 SE had whats called a sock in the tank, changed it when I fixed the fuel sender. Bob

My '83 has one in its tank. In fact the place I took it to to get the tank cleaned and sealed wouldn't seal it because of the strainer. The guy said it looked like some type of filter was in there and he was afraid the sealant would clog it up.
