Is there a factory rev limiter on the GSL-SE?
Searched for a while, but found no answer. It seems like there is right around 7400rpms. But since it is obviously fuel control, hard to tell if indeed is a rev limiter. If anyone knows, fill me in. Thanks!

the buzzer kicks it at 7k and thats an "over-rev" buzzer so i consider the redline at 7k. BUT like i said it will pull hard to 8k and have been told its fine by more than 1 person on here.

this is a good question....
the buzzer is for redline only...and for carbed cars...essentially it would keep going until you blow the motor. That is why the buzzer is there in the first place.
but...for the SE....being fuel injected...is there a fuel cutoff? hmmm...I have taken to car to about 7....but never passed to see what would happen.
obviously on "modern" cars you FEEL the fuel cut off...so you know its redlining...and protects the engine from being over revved...but the GSL-SE...I would like to know and not experiment on my own car!

Those where some of the first ECM computers onboard RX's anyway. Very simple controllers. I guess it would of been possible by linking it with the cruise control system.

When I had my car parked in my driveway, and was testing a few things out on the motor, I revved that motor as high as I could. The needle actually swept past the 8K and stopped there, but not sure if that's because there was a stopper peg for the needle or not. I can't remember.
However, getting some advice from a Senior Member, he said there's really no point in doing that. So, that was the first and last time I ever did that again.
The engine did seem to stop revving once that needle stopped just past the 8K mark.

Because it hit's a power curve and power will start to fall off. Aspiration can only suck in so much mixture and poop it out.
Your already spinning like the Car of Tomorrow at Nascar.. buy a sport bike to go faster revs... otherwise that's bout it. Or Jet car...

The GSL-SE does indeed have the over-rev buzzer. Mine goes off at around 7K.

Mine doesn't have an over-rev buzzer. I'm sure it did at one point, but it has long since ceased to buzz. And I haven't the motivation to try to fix it.

I hit mine way too often in my SE, something to do with 4.08 gears and a TII swap My GSL also has the buzzer. Both are '85s.

love the braaaap
When I read this thread, I can't help but think the blind is leading the blind here. There is NOT a fuel cutoff on any 1st gen. The computer simply doesn't go that high in the fuel tables and just kinda starves the engine of fuel, not an actual cutoff point. And as for the overrev buzzer, its supposed to come on at 7k. Sometimes they are off by a few hundred rpm, sometimes they don't work at all.
As for those saying its "safe" to take a rotary with a 7000rpm redline up to 8 grand and above on a regular basis, DON'T!! Its alright once in a while, but constantly going up that high will blow your motor. And as for the 12A being blueprinted to 9500, total BS. The stock clutch and peripherals mounted on the engine are rated to no more than 8400rpm. Above that and the clutch can blow up and you can wreck many things attached to the engine.

Also, you don't need to rev it to 8k, it stops making power after 6500.

I think there is a flip over turn off but not rev limiter. Flip over just stops gas from going to the engine to reduce fire.
I do think the buzzer is only in the Jan 84+ production. From some of the info floating around. Could be wrong.
