Test driving an RX-7, need advice

I'm test driving a 1985 RX-7 GS 5sp tomorrow. Anything specific thing I should look for on the first gens that tends to break?

Thanks in advance.

On the front steering check the idler arm bushing for slop, this is common and very minor.
The most important thing that is different as you know is the motors. I always recommend having a compression test done before buying any rotary. Make sure that it will rev all the way up to redline in nuetral without alot of trouble. The idle is another clue as to how it is
running. Look for leaks between the rotor housings and at the back of the engine. Other than that all the obvious things like condition of tires, coolant, etc.... rx7doctor

In NY, RUST.

Check under the storage bins behind the seats (use a phillips and take them out to check)

ANY wiring problems can be a real pain in the ***.

It's almost rust-less, but it does have a little front end damage. I'm at school, so I don't have my compression tester. Are the spark plugs hard to get at on the 12A engine?

ANY OTHER COMMON PROBLEMS AMONG FIRST GENS?? Bearing issues, suspension issues, spots where it usually rusts, synchros that go bad in the tranny, etc... I want to know everything

Thanks guys!

As far as rust, check the inside hatch area where the drains are. Listen for bearing noise from the trans, only common problem was the main input shaft bearing. 12a's and 13b's are
some of the simplest plugs to change of any motor. Make sure it tracks ok if it has front end damage. rx7doctor
