Tension Rod Bracket

The tension rod brackets on my car seem to be rusted out....Does any one happen to have a picture of the size of the hole that the tenson rod is supposed to go through? or even a measurement? Im pretty sure that the rust has enlarged the hole beyond use. If no one knows that im talking about, i'll try to get a picture up...Or check out a Victoria British Catalog...Its in the section with the front cross member....

Thanks alot!

I know what your talking about, but the only way to get a pic is to take the rod out which I'm not gonna do. About how big is the hole in your braket? I assume your talking about the hole the tension rod itself goes through right?

It just so happens that I just got finished bead-blasting and painting those same brackets. I have the sleeve that goes over the tension rod, and inside the bushings. It has an outer diameter of about 22mm. The hole in the bracket is not much larger than that, as the sleeve was not a tight fit, but there wasn't much clearance around it.

Like he said: The only way to know for sure would be to pull the tension rod out and measure... and I just got done putting it all back together!

Great to hear that someone knows what im talking about....Well that whole....is pretty big...The sleve is really loose in there and its not even circular anymore! I'm REALLY glad i decided to take mine apart to change the bushings. Only problem is i dont know where to find another set, since pretty much every rx7 around here is much more rusted out....i thought mine was in good condition but.....Tommrow im gunna take a picture and show you guys.

The tension rod is attached to the front control arm assembly. And is attched right inside of the end links. Its basically just a straight rod with holes in one end and threads on the other. It basically works as an A-arm, keeping the control arm in place and more rigid. Hope that helps

I do believe that part is called a Radius Arm and therefore you are changing the Radius Arm bushings.

Is that correct?

Hey Kehoe, is your 79 white? I remember seeing a white RHD in New Orleans online somewhere for sale a while ago I think, just wondering.

Yep, it is white and I did try to sell it awile back but my buddies convinced me to get rid of one of my other cars and keep it.

What were you doing in New Orleans??

MADRI GRAS will soon be here!!

Thomas

The highest offer I had for it was $4500 bTW. The car is being highly modded at the moment. I plan to post a long thread about the whole project in a month when it is completed. Don't worry, I'm keeping the body stock, but not the mechanicals!!

I'm not entirely sure what the difference is: I know that on most trucks there is a radius arm (with its bushings) that performs essentially the same duty as what we call a strut bar or a tension rod on a car. As far as Energy Suspension is concerned, they sold me a tension rod bushing set...

It's also a means for adjusting the caster.

How long can ya live without the 7? I have a spare set that I can sell ya, provided that the ones on my car aren't rusted out as well...

Hopefully I'll be stripping my car down in the next few weeks.

I finally have a place to work on it with an Air compressor and lift and everything.

I have an extra set in ok shape, I'd like to hold onto them for spares, but if you get in a huge bind we might be able to strike a deal.
