temp gotta be wrong........

okok..... so i finally installed my FAL fan and used a thermostat switch..the switch isnt adjustable but comes on at 185...i thought the 12a was supposed to run normally at 180 so i thought this was a good temp for it to turn on at...

well my temp guage usally reads about 1/4 way up which means it should equal 180.....???? but my fan wasnt turning on untill my guage was reading 3/4 the way up and about to overheat...so... whats the deal with that?? my temp guage wrong or thermostat wrong

If your fan's controller goes between the fins, then there is a difference. Water temp is based on liquid. Controller is air temp so you will need to set it lower...start with the lowest setting and work your way up while watching the water temp gauge.

couldnt i put that copper probe in the rubber hose??

its just a copper probe and wet or dry it shouldnt hurt it.....and will be exposed to the water temp and not air right?????? so it will acully turn on earlier?

You could probably stick the probe anywhere, pun intended, lol, but how do you plan on sealing the rubber hose.

Wacky gave you the best advise, try it, it has worked for me. I would add an aftermarket temp gauge to make sure the fan comes on at the desired temp.

I have a similiar setup and used the Autometer temp gauge to set my thermo fan switch.

Or you can do it myway and just have it on a toggle. I have four honda fans. TWo which fit almost directly across....so in other words. Two fans wired to the toggle, i just have them on at all times. They are very reliable.

If your controller is not adjustable, then I would junk it. You can get an adjustable one that works just fine from Autozone for 18 bucks.

However, you have to ask for it because they keep it in the back, not out on the shelves. They might tell you they don't have one, but insist that they do and jump up and down until they finally go back and look.
