lol the engine is painted but what happened to painting the car...

 

the heat from the car running will probly take care of most of it for you the rest should flake of with a little help

 

Something about that silver paint,it doenst ever really dry.
At least not like regular paint.It can be years old, and it will still come off on your finger if you rub it.I think it lacks a clear hardener like most spray paints.Anyway,its very easy to wipe off with laquer thinner.Its a damn messy job and it will get everywhere,but its easy enough to remove.I know cause there are actually legit things I use it for at work.Even the high-end, MRO Silver, high temp paint we sell, behaves this way.

 

+1 What a dumby painting it like that Im 16 i have a 84 gsl and i love my car had it for awhile and wouldve got pissed after looking under the hood and gone back to his house and brake his windows for ****** up a seven. and paint thinner or laquer should work or something like mineral spirit works good for spray paint. good luck.

Holy cow, where do these people come from?? I would think carb rebuild, its probably loaded with paint that it sucked in, from the look of the belts I do think he painted it while it was running.... WOW, that all I can say, its just, omg...

+1 on the pressure washer. I guess anything that cool would not have had any surface prep, thus no adhesion.

 

Carb cleaner/ formula 88/ purple stuff/ etc...
Spray it on heavy and without diluting it and it will help soften the paint to be removed with a pressure washer. The paint used looks cheap and probably didn't stick to well to the dirty engine which i'm sure that "inteligent" customizer didn't prep before paint.

I have never in my life seen an alt sprayed while still assembled and in the car and all wired up. And wtf who sprays belts. Agree with the Pressure washer. High pressure should pick apart his 3 dollar pep boys chrome job. I would toss alot of the elect **** it just cant be good. Either that or pull the motor and redo the engine and the bay in one clean swoop.

No go back there and make sure this kid never buys another can of spray on chrome.

Haha... that's sad but funny in a nostalgic way - I did the exact same thing to a bicycle when I was 15... tires, chain, brakes... all krylon silver. Masking is for bank robbers.

One of the previous owners had a thing for orange. So without doing any prepwork, they sprayed the entire car, doorjambs and all. Right over the factory Dover White and clearcoat! So naturally the paint was chipping off when I got it. Since there was still good clear under the orange, I started using paint thinner and paper towels to take it off. Uncovered some nice paint, a lot of bondo and a lot of white spraypaint over said bodywork. I simply repainted the orange parts of the interior to match the factory color. The car could use a new paint job but it's better than orange!

 

Oh... and to get that paint off - find an empty spray bottle (Windex or whatever) and fill it with paint thinner. Use that to lightly mist the painted areas. Wait about 2-3 minutes for it to soak into the paint and then hit it with a pressure washer. It should peel off quite easily when weakened by thinner. Just be careful not to damage electrical components with the pressure washer. I'd recommend removing everything you can and cleaning away from the car.

 

Nice transformation. It no longer looks like an orange creamsicle.

I made a Cheeto-like mistake when I was 16. I had a truck and one of the fenders had been replaced, so I decided I wanted the whole thing to be dark and light blue metallic. Had this elaborate paintjob designed and picked up all the paint I needed and got to work. Didn't realize I had to prep it. The paintjob looked pretty good for a rattlecan job. . . until winter hit. We had a good freezing rain that wet the truck down and then froze it. The weight of the ice pulled giant sheets of paint off the clearcoat underneath it. My poor truck looked like ***.

 

he could have at least made the paint some what consistant... =(

 

lol thats great, i was 17 when i got my gsl-se, and the only thing i felt compelled to do was put new brakes on it. Now this kid has inspired me to paint my engine...lol.

Good thing you got your hands on it before it got worse.

 

At least he used crappy silver spray paint and not honest to god engine paint. Suggest pulling the engine and some thinner/lacquer. Careful around the plastic and rubber hoses/electric insulations.

Check your carb, the odds are good given the coverage, that the paint got inside (definitely replace that air filter.) I expect that you may have some fun with the belts or hoses now.

A few years ago my friend saw an add in the paper for a 1995 Cherokee and he asked me to come check it out with him. This woman was selling it because her son and his friends all around 16 years old, were just being boys. They each had a hatchet and there was nothing salvagable. Every hose was cut, they split the valve cover and destroyed the wiring harness. 3 spokes were left on each wheel undamaged, but they even managed to destroy the cover of the differential, windows were all smashed, c and d pillars were wiped clean off and they smashed the back down so it looked like a HUMVEE. Good lord, those are some stupid *** kids. It was given to him.

We asked what she did after they did that.













She said she went out and bought him the car he wanted... a 1998 V8 Camaro. We shuddered to think he was litterally born to drive that Camaro.
