I used the fan out of a '91 Escort GT in my '88 TII

It's 3 speed (high, low, and if you hook them both together its medium)
I used a two way switch from radio shack rated at carrying 6A@120V. It hasn't burnt out yet, and it's been on there ALL summer long.

I have the switch hooked to low and high.. at the lowest setting it seems to move a TON of air.. far more than the stock fan at idle.

on high, the thing will damn near hover... if you set it on the ground and put it on full it'll jump and skip around and etc.. it's kinda neat to watch. It REALLY moves alot of air on this setting.
I paid $5 at the junkyard with a 90 day warranty.. can't beat that!

I used 2 stiff pieces of wire to mount the top of it, and nothing to mount the bottom of it, but it stays there and wont' move (it kind of rests on the lower lip of the rad? hard to explain)
I just wired it directly to the battery via a switch, looked like that was the easiest way to go.

for 2004 i'm going back to the stock setup, or I'm buying a thermostat..

you shouldn't need a warning light or anything, just WATCH YOUR GAUGES.. it's a habit everyone should be into anyways...

It's a shame, but I am glad it all worked out in the end.

I would write a how-to, but my fan isn't exactly working correctly. I attempted to use a thermostat from Advance Auto Parts so that the fan would kick on when needed. I don't know what the heck is wrong with it, but the thermostat is closed all the time, hence the fan never shuts off. The thermostat is even keeping the fan on when the car is off. Probably because I hooked everything directly to the battery, but the thermostat should still break the circuit to the fan when needed right?

I dunno, I was thinking about hooking it up to an on off switch, or just wiring it in with the ignition, but to me that defeats the whole purpose of the fan swap. This means the fan is on all the time and probably robbing more power than the stock fan did to begin with.

So in short, unless I can get this dumb thermostat to work, I am helping my car to de-evolve.

I had a 3.0L 2-speed fan in my 12A and just dropped in a 13B. The main pulley and water pump pulley now both interfere with the fan. I've been looking for a 3.8, but of the 20 Tauruses in Atlanta that are junked, every one is a 3.0L. Is the 3.8 a whole lot shallower? I'll keep looking, but I currently have a fiero fan that's WAY too deep too. So yeah, I have two good fans and neither work. The thermostatic switch is still wired up and ready to go, I just need a fan. Will the 3.8L work with a longer 13B block? Also, for anyone with the front-mount oil cooler, did you cut the lower radiator lines that aren't used and duct the oil cooler too, or just the smaller radiator?

By the way guys, I really don't see that a how-to is necessary. Installing the fan is very straighforward. It's just a matter of finding one. I'll write up everything when I reinstall mine, but there's not much to it.

Hey everyone, need a little help. I finally found a 3.8L Taurus fan and it too is too deep to fit between my radiator and water pump pulley. I've searched all over the place. For anyone with a 13B and e-fan, what in the hell are you using? I just wanna be able to get her rolling and it just ain't happening.

I just wanna see some pictures.

What fan did you use, how it sizes up to the radiator, how'd you mount it, and how much air does it move?

Junkyards here are *** expensive, I'll probably just be ordering the fan from the parts store.

I'd rather not punch holes in the radiator to mount the fan... Bracketry to the chassis would be nice.

Dude, get yourself a Fiero Fan. Build a couple of really simple aluminum brackets. Buy a fan wiring kit from any auto parts store ($25) you can use a $8 30 amp and wire it yourself, but the kit is much easier and cleaner. for a max of $60 your car will run cooler and smoother than ever!!!
I4 or V6 Fiero? I'm assuming V6... What year?

How's it size up to the radiator?

Pics?

you would want a warning light hooked up to it, so you would remember to turn the fan back off when it was no longer needed.
