Targa Band

Some of you wanted to see some Targa bands. They are, in my opinion, the single best cosmetic upgrade to a 1st gen.

Neither of those cars is mine, although I also have a Targa bar that I haven't installed yet. I'll be installing it after I get the car painted (probably not until spring).

I like them myself. Unfortunately, since I wrecked mine, I haven't been able to find another good one. I found one but the metal was all messed up. Looked like some idiot tried to pry it off with a screwdriver. Is there anybody out there that has one to get rid of(just the targa band).

Boy, I shouldn't have given mine to Dave Randall. I could have sold it to one of you. Actually I sort of traded it...

IMO, they suck on light colored cars, and mine is white, which is about as light as they come. Not too shabby on the darker colors though.

They look better on any 7 that has an air dam and spoiler.

Take care,

I have a complete Mariah Mode I wide body package. But I also customized it by adding the side skirts and rear valance to the body kit. It took about 7 weeks to do but it was worth it.

Hey, what are those line things at the bottom of your doors. Are they paint or some sort of extruded metal? ALso, i REALLY like those bands. I think it would look good on me blue. If interest is enough, i wonder if we could get some made? Maybee get like 50 people intersted and see if some custom place could make us some.

hotty,
Hehe! They don't work 'cause I took that website down months ago, lol!

No, they don't have any function at all, they just look pretty
I'll see if I can find some pics to show... (My Avatar has a little tiny pic of my car with the Targa Band)

heAMAZINGNorad,
They only ever came in back with brushed steel. It'd probably be REALLY expensive to have it done as custom work. You'd probably be better off finding a used one and painting it.

Ah...

Still, I found mine on e-bay for only $100 US. That's a great deal. If you're seriously interested, I could put you in contact with some guys that may be able to help you locate one.

I have a 3 piece targa band that came off my SA. It's in great shape with no major scratches. I tried buffing it with rubbing compound, as you can see in the picture, cause I ran out of metal polish. The screw holes have a bit of rust round them cause someone used non-stainless screws but, this should come out with the metal polish.

Also the two badges that say mazda on the side poped off, but are easily reapplied.

What is a fair price for these things? That one on ebay was up to $130... Is $150 plus shipping fair? I don't know, I'll take offers. I'm in the 92544 area code of CA.

Not to start a war, but I think the targa bands are the ugliest things possible to put on a first gen. Why do you want to pretend to be something your not? Pretend you are driving an old 911? If you don't chop the top of the car and make a targa roof, why the hell would you want a fake band?

I agree with you, but there's no accounting for taste. Some people actually think the Pontiac Aztec is good looking!
