Targa 7

Anybody heard of a 'targa 7'?I found a guy parting out one and am considering buying the whole car but do not know what a reasonable price is.

The Targa package is just an option that added some body components AFAIK. There's an aluminum piece that goes up over the roof between the back of the door and the side windows - I personally think it's ugly. They also have a finn in the back which is my favourite finn configuration, so that's a plus. I wouldn't consider it being worth any more than any other 7.

No, it is not an aftermarket conversion on the FB. I happen to have an 85 SE Targa.

A true targa has a lift off top right, not like a Miata though, just the part across the top of the doors from side to side?

The targa band was an add on part from the dealer, bling factor, purely non functional. Kind of a misnomer. I believe there were 2 types, the dealer one and an aftermarket one, but I haven't been able to confirm this.

The Targa had to be ordered as such, not bought and then installed at the dealer. Yes, there are aftermarket versions, but the true targa will say say Targa on it. As for the roof, you seem to be describing a T-top and the answer is no. Mine is an SE Targa and came with the SE "moon" roof. The only difference in the Targa is the Targa band across the rear of the roof and down the side of the rear of the roof. It is a three piece band of plastic w/aluminum on it.

Saw one in a wrecking yard once, the band looked factory. didn't care for the look but car had tons of great parts, power mirrors, cruise, A/C etc. made arrangements to get engine & tranny but when I came back car was gone, crushing day it was an '83'

I like what Mazda did with all of the 7's. Except that. To me it makes the rear look too heavy and I don't care to spend that much time polishing.

You don't have to polish it. Just wash it when you wash the rest of the car. It is not a pollished finish.
