Tall bastard in first gen?
Hey all, just found this forum. I really like first gen 7's and would like to own one at some point. Problem being I'm 6'6. Is there any chance I would fit or am I a hopeless case? If I couldn't fit in a first gen what about second gen? I tried to search for this info but couldn't find it.. So who's the tallest person here that drives a first or second gen rx7?
thanks.

My friend is a fat idiot... he's about 5'5" and can barely get in my friggin 7... Then again, his dad is skinny and about 6' and can fit in my car.

6' 2" here.
I have to have the seat all the way back, which is the way i like it in the first place.
6'6'' might be a tight fit, but you can take out the cago bins behind the seats and place the seats back further(requires drilling, which is no biggie).

6'4-6'5 here and I fit in my '80 like a glove. Got a little trickier with my helmet on but it was doable.
I don't fit in the '87... it has a power moonroof which REALLY eats up headroom. If i slide the seat all the way forward and put the seatback all the way back, I can almost fit with the helmet on, but it is way uncomfortable and obviously a very poor driving position. It's part of the reason why I never really got around to fixing that car up, although if I can find a non-sunroof base model with a blue headliner I just might cut the roof out and put that in, to get rid of the moonroof.
The '85 GSL is in-between the two... in theory it should be just like the '80 but the '80 had a thin sheet of vinyl as a headliner, while the GSL has actual cardboard and felt like normal cars do = 1/2" or so of headroom gone. Also the seats sit up a lot higher, I think part of it is because the GSL has height adjustable seats and the adjustment mechanism takes up some space so the seat can't be as low, and also the '80 had a seriously worn out driver's seat so it sat even lower.
I say go for it... if you have problems, 2nd-gen seats sit about 1/2" lower and the seats are a bolt-in once you swap the 1st-gen slider rails off. (4 bolts per seat, and then 4 bolts for the sliders... no problem!)

I drove a 83 GSL with a sunroof, and it was a little tight, and I'm about 6' - 6'1". I'm sure I could have moved the seat around more, but I didn't bother. You best bet would be to find a 1st gen, and test it out. See if you yourself are comfortable in a FB or not?

Get a non-US car, ost of 'em have back seats
The prob isn't legroom, it's headroom. I have pretty long legs (35" inseam) and I simply can't drive these cars with the seats all the way back... just can't reach the pedals well enough. And also can't reach the steering wheel, the shifter, or the HVAC/radio controls!

I knew someone in highschool who used to own a 1st gen who was 6'7"!
I was very, very thin and on the basketball team. But, he never could dunk the basketball. However, he could get in and out of his '7 ok!
He just bent his knees, tilted the swival option chair in '85 model back, and had the seat tilted way back. He surpisingly fit ok, yes, his hair brushed the ceiling.
I'm 6'2" 175lb's and have the same trouble with brushing the top with my hair. The fix was simple, cut my hair really short so it doesn't get messed up! Not as much of a problem with the moonroof open.

Well, its head room i'm worried about... I've only got maybe a 33-34 inch inseam at the most, but I hit my head in a lot of cars. I have to tilt the seat back in my 89t-bird so my head doesn't hit. I do fit in my 85 fiero though, and its a small car. How far from the floor are the first gen seats. Like from the floor to your butt?
thanks for the "heads up" so to speak...

And that's not the worst part... the worst part is tagging my toes on the steering column when I try to go from throttle to brake... yuck! too bad, because they can be pretty fun little cars to drive, if a bit heavy. But there ware ways around that... no way around the steering column though!

I'm 6'4" 200lbs and I fit fine in my 85 and the seat legs in my 86 are broken so the seat sits very close to the floor which makes for much better headroom and a perfect fit.

im 5'6 no prob. my buddie is 6'6 and fits in it with stock seats. he has to slide my new seats all the way back and lean it back. but he loves my car and thinks it fits him better than a t2 did.
