Taillight lens help
Ok, heres the deal, pullling my 83 apart to get ready to paint, removed the taillights and noticed the pass side taillight lens is loose at the bottom and one side. It just didnt feel "solid" so i was checking it out and discovered it. Its attached on 2 sides fairly solidly it seems, and expensive as these are and the fact that this is a primo lens I didnt want to try to remove or repair until i could get some advise from somebody who has seen or done this before....whats the best way to fix???? As usual, any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey Barron, it sounds like the clear piece is becoming detached. This is a good opportunity to clean everything out inside there before you glue it back together, I use warm soapy water for that and good warm water rinse and dry.
If you can peal the whole thing off without breaking any plastic parts that would be best, then you can clean and prepare the inside surfaces for gluing. Makes cleaning the lenses easier too.
Then use some plastic glue or silicone to seal it back together. If you can get the surfaces to mate really nicely some toluene-based airplane glue would make the strongest bond. Otherwise a small bead of silicone should work, although you may have to redo it someday.
If you don't want to risk pulling it all the way off, I'd just clean it out and dry everything really well, then use the bead of silicone to glue it back down.

You should see the car.....most of it is in boxes and bags (all tagged of course) gettin ready for paint...talked to my upholstery guy the other day, he is redoing one of my LE seats now(the other is perfect) and when he completes it i will take him the headliner i got from you to be recovered in red...hopefully if all goes according to plan I will have it on the road this Spring or early summer....doubt mechanically it will be ready for a trip to an OGTA meeting quite then yet. Too many things to check out yet, although she appears completely solid, I just havent got road confidense in her yet... You ever thought of having an OGTA meeting on the southside???? hint hint....

Take some pictures of the old girl while she's in boxes (including that lens you are working on) and post them up!
Make some good before and after for folks needing inspiration.
And yeah definitely bring her up for the monthly OGTA meeting in Suwanee when you get that new paint on. The OGTA's will be drooling.

I've been taking some pics, plan on rolling her out to wash her one last time to get dirt off areas that arent accessible when shes together (areas like behind the back bumper, etc) to get the dirt off before i start sanding and priming. Will take some pictures outside when I do that. Body is definately solid, only rust is from some loose windshield trim that let bare metal show at the front of the roof, its fixed (windshield is out now) and I fixed the one dent she had (about the size of a pen cap) and now its time to start scuffing, priming and blocking to get her truly straight....
