Tail light restore

I've done some research and found a couple methods. I've tried buffing the tail lights with a kit, but they still don't seem very clear. I'm a little nervous about sanding (2000 grit), but so many people are suggesting it. I thought I'd ask fellow FB owners though what experiences they've had. Anyone?

2000g and a bucket of water. Keep it wet. Had to do that with my headlights (had overspray
from PO's maaco paint job) and they look brand freakin new!

I do this all the time at work. In reality depending on how much crud is built up on them (tails arent usually that bad - headlights though get pretty nasty) you can start out at 500 grit and work your way up from there. Remember to use a polish of some sort after the sanding. It doesnt matter if its a plastic polish or simply a paint rubbing compound.

For most headlights I sand like this:

500
800
1200
1500
Polish

For tails you can start at the 1200 step and you can work up higher if you want. Depending if you are doing this by hand or by machine you may want to go up to as high as 3000.

The polishing should be done with a machine, even if its a drill and a foam pad. It can be done by hand although will take more time obviously.
