Tachometer doesnt work in morning

hey, my friend just got an 83 GSL and his tachometer doesnt work in the morning. on his way to work it doesnt read at all, on the way home it works just fine.

the tach works off the trailing coil, right?
thats about my extent of knowledge on the matter.

anyone with ideas would be appreciated.

i have an 88 anniversary and it floods all the time. (bad injectors)
i used to pull the injector fuse and crank for a bit to unflood it, but now i have a switch on the fuel pump and it works grandly.

when i was pulling the injector fuse, the tach wouldnt work after starting the car untill i turned it off then on again. strange but i can accept that as reasonable.

why his tach doesnt work in the morning, then will in the afternoon has left me dumbfounded.

just check the trailing, it might be the ignitors that are going bad.

Another thing ya’ll may want to take a look at is the connections on the igniter and the coils, sounds like it could be a corroded connection in the wiring. Since the Tach is intermittent.

I had a similiar problem with my 84GSL - it would not work when the temp became cold - worked fine when weather was warm and after driven about 5 miles it would start working when it was cold - the colder the outside temp the longer it took it to work - when garaged it helped - this went on for several years and as far as I know it was still doing it when I sold it - once car warmed up it worked OK
