okay i just got an Autometer 5 inch monster tach. i hooked it up to the negative terminal on the coil and it was reading extremely low on the tach, so i figured maybe that was just a bad spot to read from, so i pulled the guage cluster and hooked it into the terminal on the back of the cluster where it sends to the tach in the cluster. it was reading exactly half of what the stock tach was reading... is this a problem with my tach or an issue that all rx7 have? due to the fact it is dual coil and such? any other points where i can hook in my signal wire where i might get a good hook up? let me know. thanks. oh and in case u are wondering, the tach has no noticable switches or ***** to adjust it to 4,6, or 8 cyl cars.... that was my first thought as well.

you need to change what the pulses are reading it needs to be an 4 pulse and you have it set as a 2 pulse i think thats how that works and you have it on the right coil right. i had talked to one of the guys at auto meter a while back about how to hook up a tach to a rotary engine. he said something along those lines and i also remember something from back when i had it hooked up to my bug i had it set as a four pulse and it was double reading you should have contacted them by i guess this works though. i hope it works for you but a tach in a rx7 why do you need one the stock one works just fine doesnt it and it has the shift buzzer so
okay i called AM and they said to clip the orange and brown wires coming out the back of the tach. worked like a champ so if anyone needs to know how to set their AM guages, that is a very common setup. just clipping the two wires. thanks for the help
