Tach stuff

Hey dudes, whats up.

I live in Alaska and my Tach on my 84 12A sometimes doesnt work when its too cold. So my friend gave me a Splitfire tach that he said i could put on my car. Well, ive looked and looked in my chilltons, and i cant figure out how to add it on.

But, first, id like to say that im a total-ish noob when it comes to modding my car, that said, i want to learn everything i can, because eventually im gonna be dropping a 13B into that little beast, but all the mods ive done so far is a new exhaust system - 2 and a quarter inch pipes from the headers into a magnaflow with a big tip. (Yep no cats, and its actually way faster now and if you want to see what it sounds like go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fA6ljOYUK0)

So thats that, im just looking for any pointer or anything that would help me figure out how to wire this Tach in, I mainly want it in because it will look cool, and in hopes that it wont freeze when it gets to 40 below here. So, any tips guys?

Why do you say that?

First off, you need to get a haynes or download the factory service manuals that are linked through a forum members signature. Search for Trochoid and you will find it.

Next, you need to route your wires. Black is generally ground, so just connect that to a good chassis ground with a eye connector and a screw. Next, red is generally switched 12V power, meaning you have to connect that to some wire that is only on when the key is in the ON or RUN position. They white wire (possibly yellow) is then connected to your dash lights. This one is more tricky but if you search the wiring diagrams in the FSM you should find the wire you want. Then its the green wire, for the ignition signal. Hook this to the negative side of either ignition coil on your car. I suggest you use the leading coil, which is the one closer to the driver.

Hope this helps. You need to check out the wire colours and what they do according to the tach you have, but they are generally the colours I mentioned above.

Oh yeah, you want to set the tach to work with a 4 cyl engine.
