Tach And Gas Gauges.

Hey guys...
Im kinda new at this forum.
but a small problem just came about in my 1985 GL.
My tach and gas gauges don't work.
They just stopped working all of the suden..like at the same time...?
Anyone know what this lil problem is...
i just bought a haynes book for it as well...so ill read up on that in it, but if any of you might know what causes this small problem...let me know please..

I don't think u will have much luck with the Haynes. The Haynes and Chilton manuals are very "How-to". I am sure someone on here will be able to help u.

Check the cheap stuff first. Fuses and making sure that you do indeed have gas in the tank.

the tank is full of gas, and i havent checked the fuses yet...so ill do that a lil later.

For the tach, check the ignitor coils.

when I first got my 87 FC, the oil gauge didn't work, after a bit of searching around, it turns out there was just a plug that wasn't clipped in, just hanging there in the engie bay. like when the clutch had been replaced the mechanics didn't bother to plug it back in... look for a loose/not connected plug while you are checking the fuses too

Look on the back of the gauges, I did have this problem at one time. It was one of the ecthing wires that fried up. You just have to solder in a new line or wire jumper them, not real hard. Mind you its not that hard over all. Also replace the bulbs for the lighting while your at it, very simple.
