tach and alternator wiring.

i would like to replace the Alternator wire (white/red) wire. i started to take the harness apart and realized that it got bundled up with the big harness on driver's side of my 85 GSL.

if it goes all the way in to the dash then i won't mess with it, but i don't know how far back it goes, or where it would be a good idea to connect it to? i believe that's just the battery signal cable? so maybe straight from alternator to battery?

another thing is, and this one is because i'm not good at reading electrical diagrams. But once i gather my materials i'm gonna do DLDIFIS* (however that's spelled), and would like to get rid of trailing all together just to have less things to worry about. only problem is that since it's an 85, no trailing means no tach and no fuel pump.

now would i be better off just sucking up my pride and leaving trailing stock, or is there a simple 1 or 2 wire swap to leading? i know one wire is the tach signal but don't know which one, and is there one for the fuel pump? or is it both the same wire?

I am redoing my alternator wiring also, just going to have the red/white wire ran to the other
side of the main fuse. There is also a line that runs to the ignition switch but I haven't gotten
that far yet.Battery goes in one side, alternator on the other. Leave the plug in the alternator
to have your voltage gauge work.

Take the trailing plug (I believe green/yellow or vice versa?) and put it on the leading coil, that
should take care of that... Never had an S3, but it works on my S2.

EDIT: Checked the wiring diagram for my 82, and it looks like the WR wire is spliced, one goes
to the fusible link the other goes to the ignition switch. If you were going to do all that, you
might as well run the relay mod for your ignition switch Downloading the 85 FSM right now.

yeah just move the tach signal wire to the leading coil. the red/white wire is just a constant 12v from the bat.

if you look at the wires going to the igniter (trailing or leading), there is a thick black/white wire. This will give you a constant 12-V. Just run a jumper wire from here to the alternator F terminal

k thanks. one quick question that i meant to ask before. the yellow/green wire for trailing, if i put it on the leading will i still have the fuel pump? or would i have to re-wire that since it's an 85?
