synthetic in tranny?

My shifting has been getting a little rough lately and I was wondering if syntheic in the transmission would help. What kind should I use if any? Thanks.

You could use Redline synthetic in the tranny - Mazdatrix or Racing Beat have the weight listed - and it'll smooth the shifts for a while. This will only mask your real problem, though. Sounds like some gear teeth got chewed up a little. I'd probably start shopping for a used tranny either out of a salvage yard or a shop that caters to used Japanese engine sales, you're on borrowed time...

Yepper, you can go Syn in trans and rearend...But if I were you, and shifting is getting "rough" I would check the clutch slave cyl. Betcha it's wet under the rubber rod cap. Replace the slave cylinder and bleed....Oh, boy! Clutch is back!

A tip of the Stetson,
Denny, from the 'ol corncrib...

Oh yeah My shifting was fine until we changed out the clutch. Maybe I screwed up the slave cylinder some how. I put it back in the same way it came out. Was there some special way of putting it back in that I didn't know about? Thanks

I use redline in my tranny and it made shifting much smoother.
I have a bad synchro in 2nd and it still clunks a little under hard exceration but way better than it was.

theneanderthol, It is probly your master or slave, problems tend to show with those soon after a clutch change

I use nothing but Synthetic, it is smoother, quieter and makes the parts run for longer

I had tranny noises galore, not to mention notchy shifting..
this was with castrol dino in the case
switched to Royal Purple on a hunch...obviously my tranny will need replacing eventually but the synthetic made the night and day difference...can't hear the whinning as before, and the shifting is great unless I really get on it..as in speed shifting..however just about every car i've owned (used) had issues with speed shifting...so I easily forgive my reliable 22 year old car

Did you replace the pilot bearing when you did the clutch job? The pilot bearing can also cause hard shifting if it's the least little bit balky.

Also, I'd like to recommend Amsoil synthetic 75W-90 gear oil for use in transmissions and non-LSD differentials. I've been using Amsoil for many years and I've been totally sold on it ever since it cleared-up my skritchy 3rd gear synchro in my old RX4. I drained Redline out of my Fiesta's gearbox and replaced it with Amsoil and the gearbox actually got a little quieter.

my shifting was a little less notchy and seemed to put power to the ground MUCH more efficiently after i put in lucas oil a couple weeks ago......my whole rear end can slide out shifting to second now(why is something so dangerous so awesome ; ) and before my tires would just kinda chirp(my tires are going bald tho too........i noticed such a big diff. because the old fluid turned that orange color and it was obviously not lubricating well anymore because i found the metal shavings hairball on the plug magnet bummer

p.s. lucasoil synthetic i forget wieght now, but the same as everyone else recommends, found my bottles at autozone(with a diesel hauler on the front)
