Switched 12v in center console area?

I am working on a project that will let you retract or extend the radio antenna whenever you want. This will go along with my mod to put a line in on the stock radio (that bit works great). I need to find a switched 12v though someplace in the center console area though. Do either of the amps recieve a swithed 12v signal?

Yes, both amps have switched 12v going to them. I used this to trigger my power antena. The orginal power connector was no where to be found. I guess the result of repairs done by the PO. Do a search for the stereo wiring harnes diagram. That should help. I cannot remember which wire it is.

Looks like blue yellow (LY) is always on 12v but there should be a blue white (LW) going to some of the components and that should be switched 12v. This is just from looking at the wiring diagrams for the 84. Go to trochoids' signature for the links to the manuals and wiring diagrams.

I think you'll need a switch that the 12v triggers to ground the antenna to raise it, or something like that. Check installdr.com, or search for a previous post that describes this- I remember reading it awhile back.

I am writing this to all the lovely people who have an aftermarket antenna, as that is what I have. Sorry to everyone who still has a working stock antenna.

Thanks for the info so far guys. Basicly I am making it so you can retract your antenna whenever you want, and keep your radio for when you are listening to other audio sources.

Yup, Yup. Need a ground trigger. You could do it with a +12V trigger, but only if you either rewired the antenna, or installed a relay (recommended).

The 84 wiring diagram shows a relay up under the dash on top of/or near the steering column. Maybe you can use that one if its still there? I'm glad my SA just has a button on the console that already does it
