swapping GSL small axle diff for GSL large axle diff questions

i know the swap it's self is pretty strait forward and simple. but i more had questions about guts of the swap.

like the third member and rind and pinion gears. I have a set of 4.88 gears in my small axle that i would like to reuse if possible.

my thoughts were to swap the large axle LSD in to my ring gear and then install my old third member into the large axle diff, that is if the third members were the same.

is that possible or is the whole third member different between the large and small axle diffs.

Yes it would work..I had to do the same thing years ago when i broke the ring gear in the se i had and bought a junkyard third member not knowing there was a diffrence. Just try and make sure your backlash on the gears are as close to being the same as posible. a dial indicator and a magnetic base work great for that.
