Suspension Questions

1984 GSL - Looking to replace suspension bushings with struts and tires.
I'm the original owner and plan to hang on to this for a good long time.
This is strictly a street vehicle and am looking for suggestions on brands and products to enhance the handling to something better than stock but not radical.
Thanx for your ideas and suggestions.

Search for it, this is a subject that has A) much debate, and B) has been covered many, many times.

Searched the FAQ's to find nothing on suspensions or suspension work. There's always a thousand plus pages to scan thru on old inquiries. Was hoping to save some hours.

For a DD I would recommend stock rubber bushings, except on the sway bar links, tension rods and lower control arms go ployurethane. If you want it stiffer, then add more poly bushings, aftermarket springs and shocks.

Thanx Trochoid. I've decided to go with black poly bushings all around. Still undecided on which brand shock and strut to go with. With only 62k on a 1984GSL, springs may be a good move too, but which brand would give better than stock performance with a reasonably comfortable firm ride?I plan on doing this upgrade before winter before the car goes to bed for it's yearly hibernation.

For struts/shocks, you'll probably want something like Tokico Blues or HP.

Trochoid - When I added all of the urethane bushings, I didn't really see any difference in ride comfort. Maybe some others have different experiences though...

I did the entire underneath of my car at the same time. All of the suspension was upgraded. The only part I didn't replace was the idler. The brake system recieved the same treatment.

Car was so stiff after the upgrade, the stock tires would hit slip angle before the body leaned. With the bigger tires and wheels, it leans, a little, and handles like a stiff go kart.
