bushings go a long way toward snugging back up a car's suspension. keep in mind that these rubber bushings are around 20 years old, which means more than likely they are dried, cracked, and otherwise worthless. new springs and shocks will also make a tremendous difference in handling. i know you said you're trying to keep it stock, but there are lots of higher performance springs and shocks out there that really don't cost that much more than stock and give much better handling. some(like tokico) even have lifetime warranties. that alone would be worth the price difference.

Try Energy Suspension Bushings, They are black and appear stock, and made a huge difference on tightening up the POS Racer.

I wished I could remember who gave me this link: http://www.suspension.com/mazda.htm

They had some of the best prices I saw, but I had bought mine a few weeks earlier from British Vic, they were a touch higher in price.

you'll really dig that setup, setzep! i've got eibach's and tokico HPs which were nothing short of amazing. when i bought 'em i lived in FL, so it was perfect(semi smooth roads). now that i'm in indy, i kick myself for not getting the illuminas. adjustability sure would be nice on these midwest highway trips when i don't want my fillings coming loose. still corners like a light cycle from "TRON" though! i like watching the color drain from my passenger's face as i go thru the turns.... energy's stuff comes in black? all mine were red, but its under the car, so it doesn't bother me anyway.

Thumbs up

First thing is to replace the idler arm bushing. they live on the passenger side on the frame rail near the exhaust. Because they're near the exhaust they get hot, then cold, then hot....So they take a lot of punishment....They're a plastic/nylon, cheap and easy to replace....gives you your steering back. Go with energy suspension bushings like the other Cowboys say. Replace tie-rods, and ball joints....You'll be in really nice shape. If you feel you need struts you'll get all kind of advice on what to buy....Get what you think is best....

A tip of the Stetson,
Denny, from the 'ol corncrib....
