Suspension

hey yall. My car is getting to the point where i don't like to drive it long distances since it rides so rough. I feel everything when i ride in it. I'm pretty sure that the shocks/struts are stock, they're black and rusty. Springs are probably stock since they're saggin. What i need is new springs and shocks/struts. I don't want anything especially aggressive. This is my daily driver. I've been looking at the tokico blues since they're streetable but not sure what else i could use. You people have the experience with the shocks what do you think. Next the springs, i want to keep them as low of a drop as possible. Seems like any aftermarket spring i find has a 3/4 to 1" drop. I would like to retain as close as a stock height as possible. Watcha think?

Eibach springs are known to be VERY stiff. Almost a racing type spring. I would suggest the Racing Beat springs and Tokicos.

Suspension Techniques springs are softer than RB and Eibachs... Tokico Blues are like Illuminas set on #3... KYB shocks will do without the cost.

this ain't no cadillac boy!

I think suspension techniques are what you need...they are the only progressive ones available.... then maybe some KYB GR-2 shocks...that will as plush as you can get it.

Assuming that my springs are the origionals and have got a bit of a sag to them, how much lower if any would the ST springs drop the car. They say 1" front and rear, for anyone that has them whats your experience with them?

you probably wont notice too much height change..

as for the tokico's and eibachs.. thats what i have, and it does ride a bit rough, and i hear racing beat springs are stiffer (they even have a high spring rate)

i say get the suspension tech. springs and if you have the money, some tokico illumina's. since they adjustable, you could go from stiffer for racing, or softer for road trips and daily driving. if you dont have the money, and want a soft ride, get the kyb's.

Also i have been looking at the Tokico Advanced Street Handling Kit (81-85) from http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/1catalog.cgi?cat=8&part=1. Both Tokico HP shocks and springs for 414.09. Seems like a good package. I would like the Illuminas but i don's got da bling bling.

My brother has the Tokico/Tokico setup you mention and he's realy happy with it, not too bumpy. Do you have the stock rims? with 13's that setup will be fine.

The eibachs have a higher spring rate than the racing beat springs. 171 in front and 100 in back for the Eibachs as compared to 145 in front and 110 in rear for RB. Suspension Techniques are progressive 85 to 120 in front and rear are 80. When you take into account that stock spring rates are 100 front and 85 rear, the Suspension Techniques are actually softer than stock.

The Eibach Pro-Kit springs have progressive front springs. If I remember right 181lbs when fully compressed/100 when slightly compressed in front and less in the back. I had these springs on my 81 with Tokico Illuminas set to 1 front 1 rear and it handeled well and wasn't harsh.

What WAS harsh was my Racing Beat springs with 1.5 coils cut off front and 2.0 cut off the rear coils. Slammed and stiff but my god that thing stuck to the road.

So as of know it looks like my options are Eibach, Tokico or ST. Has anyone else had any experience with the tokico springs? 10,000's brother has but it's not his car. Anyone? This is going to be my x-mas gift and i wanna make it worth it.
