Suddenly Tach is'nt Working, but Ignition Is!
My alternator belt shredded, so I replaced it.
(Just giving the facts- no idea if it's relavent)
80 mile drive with no problems.
Start the car up, get 2 blocks when the tach dies. I pull over and she stalls out.
Blown "Meter back" fuse.
Replace fuse, no change. Fuse does not blow again.
The only things that don't work are the fuel pump, oil pressure and the tach.
Fuel pump relay clicks and is warm from trying to start, but no juice to pump.
Had to hardwire pump directly to battery to drive home.
Headlights are bright, and I register 14 Volts.
Trailing ingition works, and is timed correctly.
Main relay works.
Replaced ECU- not the problem.
Double-checked fuses (tried new ones), cleaned ignition contacts, ect -not the problem.
I have to push on one of the soldered wires on the left of the ignition cylinder when I start the car. Again- relavent?-I dunno.
I wiggled them all with car running, and nothing made the tach move.
...I'm inclined to think I've fried something by inadvertantly shorting something somehow. Must've been a serious surge to fry the fuse AND something else. But what did I fry? I suppose I could've fried a spot on the gauge cluster circuit board.
Could I have fried my alternators internal voltage regulator? Would that cause my tach, oil pressure gauge, and fuel pump to stop working?

i dont think u would have fried the voltage reg. either it wouldnt output anything. so the head lights will be running off the battery and u would read 12v or.... it would be sending out 16v + and u would read that...
and also if it wasnt charging then the warning lights would also come on along with no tacho..
thats just what i think, but im not sure..
have u checked the fusable links?

I think I figured it out thru elimination of everything. Is'nt good.

I'm sorry guys, -I know you're trying to be helpful.
The alternator is fine.
The ECU is fine.
The ignitors are fine.
The fuses are fine.
The fusable links are fine.
And the fuel pump is now pumping via the stock relay hook-up. (I must've prematurely freaked in the parking lot?
Perhaps when I swapped out the ECU to check that off the list, I reset something?- But I've had the power on and off...I dunfuggino.
So I think because the meter-back fuse blew, and did'nt blow again, but did'nt fix the problem...and since I've checked everyfuckinthingelse, it MUST be that I fried the tach circuitboard.
I've been looking at another cluster board, and I see that the oil pressure gauge terminals go to the tach IC board terminals.
...Still does'nt tell me why it happened in the first place. I can't afford to keep frying circuit boards.

Try getting one of those cheap small 2 1/2 inch tachs and hook it up see if it works. Set it to a four cylinder for a rotary application. I removed my windshield water sprayer and had a small tach mounted there.

I think something under the hood shorted and blew the fuse, but the fuse was too strong for the tach. (?)
-It's a harness I had to install, so it could be any wire in there. Much of it is untaped...not bare wire, but not taped together anymore.
I was hoping that someone would know which wire (s) would short the tach so I don't keep frying them.
