Subject: Help Identifying Possible Factory-Fitted Group C Aero Kit – Series 2 RX-7 (J
Hi everyone, I’m reaching out to get some expert input and help verifying the originality of a Group C-style body kit fitted to my 1982 Series 2 RX-7. It’s a JDM Savannah-spec car that I’ve owned for over a decade and kept in long-term dry storage. I’m planning a full restoration, and before I begin, I want to understand exactly what I have here. Details: The car appears to have a Group C-style body kit (wheel arch extensions, side skirts, front and rear guards) that looks professionally integrated—no visible join lines, cracking, or signs of backyard work, even after all these years in storage. Most of the car is in rubbed-back primer, and the aero kit blends seamlessly with the original panels. There’s no indication of mismatched respray or filler overlap. One of the wheel arches is slightly damaged—looks like it broke during transport years ago before I bought it—but the break is clean and brittle, not flaky or layered like aftermarket fiberglass. Very clean fracture. Behind the kit panels, there’s black construction-style foam used to fill and seal between the arches and the kit. This foam seems molded and still holds its form, suggesting a high-quality, possibly factory or dealer-installed setup. Not something you'd expect from a quick aftermarket job. No signs of cracking, bubbling, or separation anywhere on the body or kit after a decade—pointing to either a factory bond or high-end install. I've had the car for about 10+ years. It's remained stable with no structural deterioration, which again makes me doubt this is a bolt-on eBay-style kit. The car features all the mod-cons of the Savannah spec: electric windows, cruise control, factory sunroof, and mirrors. My questions: 1. Is there any record of Mazda or dealers offering a factory Group C aero package on the JDM Savannah RX-7 Series 2? 2. Are there any identifying marks I should look for on the panels—stamping, part numbers, etc.? 3. Would it be worth partially removing a panel to confirm whether it’s factory molded or labeled? 4. If verified, how rare is this kit and what kind of impact might it have on the car’s value (especially with plans to restore with a bridgeported 13B and blow-through supercharger)? Any insight or historic brochure scans, photos, or links would be incredibly appreciated. I’d love to verify this setup before I commit to any bodywork or restoration approach. Thanks in advance! (P.S. Happy to post photos if requested—just want to make sure this post is well-worded first.)
Welcome to the club! I ran your post through an AI formatter. Old eyes like mine find it easier to comprehend if there are breaks. I also find the phone interface sometimes removes my formatting.

FYI - none of these were ever (Mazda) factory fitted. Any Group C body kit would have been installed by a race team. You'll need to post pics from all angles if you want input on what you've got. Good luck, sounds like a cool car,
