Stupid questions, from a stupid n00b

Ok, as some of you may know I have recently picked up a SA and I had a couple of questions after I took it out for a spin today.

1) Powersteering? Yes, no? Or am I an idiot for asking?

2) Tach is not functioning properly what could be the cause of this?

3) Where is the transmission dipstick? I looked all around the engine bay and could not find one for the life of me. *pics would help*

4) Car back-fires when I do not shift fast enough......now it is to my knowledge that all rotary motors back fire and I was expecting that, but this baby REALLY back fires. I have a sneaking suspision that the exhaust manifold gasket has a leak. Could this be the cause?

TYIA guys I am looking forward to becoming an active member in the & community!

1)No powersteering from factory

2)Trailing ignitor could be the problem, loose or disconnected wire also

3)If you could find the oil filler neck its right below that. (drivers side about mid engine) <- damn I thought it said engine dipstick..... oopse

4) Timing ?

hope it helps... at least some

Power steering, not available on SA's.

For the tach, does the car run smooth? Trailing ignitor could be bad if the car runs rough. If not, then the tach might just be bad or there is a loose wire.

Tranny dipstick, not on a manual. There is an inspection plug, but you have to get under the car to see it.

Backfires are common on a rotary, but the manifold gasket could be leaking. Could also be an idle mixture problem. Have to have more info to diagnose this.
