stupid question...shifter help!

I'm done with everything, but I can't seem to get the shifter back into the transmission? I know the ball has to go below the spring, but I can't seem to get it to go. Any ideas?

Line the ball up on the left side of the spring and snap it in place qith a swift pop with the heel of your hand.
