Sound like a vacuum leak. You need to eliminate the possibility of the notorious vacuum leaks these cars have with the stock rats nest and emmisions stuff. Try there first.

too find a vac it can be easy with a can of starting fluid or anything that is flammable that way if the idle changes when you spray you have an idea of where it is!

Check that your accelator pump is squirting when the throttle is opened. Most off idle stumbles/stalls can be attributed to this.

Is there a reason why everyone always uses starter liquid/carb cleaner rather than a vacuum-pressure gauge? I can understand that not everyone has a vacuum pressure gauge, but it just seems like a better not so backyard mechanic way of doing it... If you disconnect the brake booster line, connect the vacuum gauge to the intake manifold, your reading should be approx 18" Hg (at least thats what it is for piston engines). Then make sure to plug the brake booster line back in.

Yes, thats another good method as well. Remember if you don't have a stethoscope you can use a length of hose, it will function the same way.

I never understood the carb cleaner method either. Is it even flammable? When you use it as directed, then the engine tries to stall rather than increasing rpms. Seems like there's a hole in that theory. I also use a length of tubing for tracking down leaks... Good luck!
