Stuck and can not figure it out.

Ok, here is the deal.
85 GSL-SE running fine, TPS adjusted, idle is smooth and is a low 800. One day parked it, raised it up on 4 jack stands with a jack under the rear end for support.

While it was parked (1 year) with the monthly starts and let warm up.
I undercoated it, repalced the rear shocks, springs, bushings, and sway bar.

Then I put on a RB streetport exhaust. The header came with the O2 sensor and the other thing.... I can't think of the name. Also a block off plate.
Anyways all the work is complete ans I was gonna drive it a couple of days before I did the front.
Well, I started it up and it shot up to 3k. I thought it was just because it was cold. Well, I pulled out of the driveway and gave it some gas. When I let off it was sitting at 5k now so I shut it off. I went home and got the truck, towed it home and it has been there for three days now because I can not figure it out.

I let it warm up which was quick at 3k.
I tried to set the TPS again but I am not getting either light to come on. One bulb does light up for a sec when I turn the key to the on position.

Don't think my TPS could go out just like that could it?
I did not do anything to the motor but remove the air box, air flow sensor, black intake tube and the fan shroud.
So, I should not have messed anything up.

O'ya and it has good gas in it.

Maybe I am looking for something hard and it is so easy.

Sounds like something mechanical holding it. Check your linkage and lube it up really good. Pay attention to cc cable etc...

?

Guess I am gonna tear it down and clean everthing.
I have lube it and took off the CC cable for now.
Thanks for the reply.

Guess tonight is slow. A year ago I would have had 20 to 30 answers by now.

I would suggest that if the TPS voltage is adjusted properly that you clean the throttle body.

Get a tooth brush and some throttle body cleaner and clean the TB, and plate. See how that does.

Of course check to see if any vacuum hoses broke during the set up.

Good luck!

problem solved

Figured it out.
I had a friend over that day when I was putting everything back together so he could ride/drive in a 7. He wanted to help me so I let him put the black intake tube, the air meter, and the air box on so he will feel like he was helping. He don't know much about cars and nothing about rotories. Well, the problem was I had plugged up the intake with a shop rag and he did not remove it before he put on the intake tube.
I knew something was not right so I am glad I shut it off and towed it back home.

Well, the point to this lesson is if someone is helping you that don't know much, make sure you go over everything with them and maybe even watch.

Well now I can get him and tell him what was wrong and what could have happened.
And then let him go for a ride. Might even get him talked into a 1st gen of his own.

Thanks for the help
