Strut Tower Brace: How different is the FC?

Has anyone tried retrofitting a second gen front or rear strut tower brace for their FB? There are alot of them available on ebay ect. for the FC, and I don't want to shell out $300 for RB or Mazdatrix. Anyone tried this? I searched, but found nothing.

I've seen it done with some modification to the snorkel on the stock nikki airbox, and enlarging the holes on the strut tower slightly. With them being availible on ebay for less than $40 i'd say go for it. I probably will.

The problem is that many of the bars available on ebay are for looks only. They don't actually counter the flex of the strut towers coming together. They're so cheap because they aren't made to actually function.

I saw this alot with my friend in the Neon club. It was much easier to get your hands on nonfunctional strut braces than functional ones. At least with RB/Mazdatrix you know the thing is made for your car and will actually do a good job of strengthening the front end. Especially the one that braces against the firewall too.

But now that I take a look, I saw another brace around that I liked better I just can't remember where...

Just make sure it's functional, but if you're having to enlarge or oval the holes where it bolts to the strut tower to get it to fit, it's not going to do its job properly.

indeed. just get a real bar that works. if u want name brand stuff thats a bit flashy, get the cusco at rx7.com. that costs a bit and is adjustable. then thers teh rb's tri point bar which is nice and expensive. i like the respeed bar. i have the mazdatrix bar in my car.

on another note, i knew a guy with an ebay bar, went driving around the streets then came back with the bar twisted. true story.

That's the one! The respeed one, I like that one a lot better than most of the others I've seen.

If they have spherical rod end bearings in them, then they will allow the towers to flex, so they won't do much good.
