strut question???

I am changing out my struts, I didnt mark where the arrow was pointing on top of the struts - in the engine compartment and the manual just says to mark it before you change them. Can anyone tell me what direction the arrow shouls be pointing. Thank,

Brad

I don't know this for sure, but I think the "standard" position is with the arrow toward the back of the car, toward the engine.

Back and in isn't the 'standard' position so much as it is the most desirable. That setting should net you somewhere in the vicinity of neg 1 degree camber.

Yep. I need to move the camber plate to the correct postion on the right front as I believe it moved as I was putting it back in. Left side is good though.

standard is forward and out, and i was under the impression that the one for the camber was forward and in.

Yes, that is what I went with too. If setting it to the rear/toward engine is going to provide more camber then please let me know.

Back and in is max negative camber and max positive caster, (which helps centering and stability.) So long as the arrow is pointing inward, you have the max negative camber possible with the stock strut tops.

Stock location and additional adjustments are in the FSM. Download it and look it up.

Here's a bit of a twist to the plot. My buddies SA has the arrow pointing to the bolt FURTHEREST away from the center of the strut, while my '83 has the arrow pointing at the bolt CLOSEST to the center. Exact opposites of each other.
