is this structural?

this is in my drivers seat pan, and there is some pretty bad rust around/under it. Is this a structural piece, or can I remove it to fix the rust under it? I assume that this is where the front of the stock seats was mounted, do aftermarket seats/RX-8 seats require that this is in tact, or is it OK to get rid of it if I'm not putting stock seats in?

it's in the drivers seat pan, about where the center console and the shifter surround meet. kind of like 3/8 of an octagon, running from side to side

It's a unibody car, it's all structural.

Or did you think there was a 'Fred and Barney Special Edition', FB for Third World Countries.

I have very little rust under my storage bins, my drivers floor pan is the worst rust in my car.

Looks like mostly surface rust. Can you poke a screw driver through any of it? If not then sand/grind out most of the rust and treat it.

along the sill it is extremely thin. I'm going to grind off as much of the rust as I can, treat it, seal it all in with a bunch of coats of Rustoleam, and then rivot/weld in a piece over it to give myself a little more material.

The Rustoleum won't hold up. Go to your local autobody paint supplier and get the proper materials. Do it right the first time, it's cheaper than doing it twice.

awesome, i'll have to order some of that up once I pay off my credit card. Now that you've shown me this, i think that I may put my car on my grandpa's lift, take off the undercoating on the bottom of my car, and paint 3 or 4 coats of this **** on the underside to kill any and all rust.

I stand behind POR-15. I use it, just like with everything else, It's all about the prep work. Just follow the instructions and it's unbeatable.

I used por15 for the bottom of my doors. Just did it during the summer so I can't say any long term experiences yet, but hopefully it does something.

Floor pans are not structural, take from someone who fixes cars for a living, we on a body shop, the pans are not strructural, but theraiils are, so dont get too worried.
