strange shifter

Ever since I took out the shifter to drop the tranny, my shifter has been strange. My Mazda 323 did the same thing. It has no resistance to move left in neutral, but a lot of resistance to move right. Maybe there was some sort of spring that got misplaced/lost when I put the shifter in cause it will either stay in the middle in neutral of move left and stay there without me touching it. How do I fix this?

Take your shifter back out and put the spring back in it's proper location.

Yep, I'm with Nimrod. (I can't believe I just said that! )

It's a little spring that looks kinda like a washer. You probably dropped it.
