Strange ignition problem

Ok this is going to sound strange but I have to hold my key between on and start to keep it running today. yesterday it died in a parking lot and when I restarted it it would start and run in the starting position but as soon as I let go of the key it shuts off with no power. on the 3rd try it was fine. I went to a friends house today and it shut off on its own and the same starting happening again but it wouldnt clear up so I had to hold the key slightly on the starting position just before where the starter gets voltage. Is there a fix other than replacing the whole switch. I am out of work ATM and havent the cash to throw at it.

It's the electrical portion of the ignition switch that is failing, it's located on the back side of the lock cylinder, it just unbolts. rx7doctor

Right, I am good on location I am asking if there is anyone that has repaired one as opposed to replacing it and if so, what wires are involved as I could just move those to a toggle for now and leave the start part on the switch. I dont have the funds to do anything about it in a proper way at this point.

just get a starter button. Hook up the power source to any one that has power with switch
on or straight to the posistive battery post, the other wire goes straight to the start side of the solenoid. Pick up at any auto parts for about$10.00. rx7doctor

Right on, I was just figuring that someone else had done it br and could tell me what little parts and springs will shoot out. I took it apart and there are alot of little parts that could mess up but if your careful its pretty str8 forward. I got it apart and cleaned all the contacts and found that one had some arcing so I filed it down, cleaned all the pads and it works perfectly now.
