The RB presilencer takes the tinny sound out of the exhaust. Makes it more mellow so to speak.

As for use of mufflers, go with a large magnaflow (5x8 oval 18" long body) with offset in offset out in the middle of the car (yes it will fit) and then an equally large Magnaflow with single center in and single or dual out at the back. This will be quiet enough to satisfy the sound police and won't hurt your HP much.

85RotaryPower, thx for the tips on Magnaflow! Someone else told me a while ago that they have a great sound. Question for ya: Any chance that you could describe the sound levels compared to stock? Or compared to a Racing Beat setup?

P.S. Of course, probably can't be used on an SE without modification .... need to activate those 6 port engines.

a header will make it very rhasper, a presilencer will take that edge off. after that it depends on what kind of muffler.

a racing beat muffler is very quiet, while an A`pexi N1 would be rather loud.

would the noise levels be any different in a GSL-SE with RB headers and straight pipe to a magnaflow? I dont want to add a presilencer or a glasspack in the middle. Will this affect HP or cause it too lean out.

Why would cause it to lean out? Exhaust has nothing to do with whether or not the engine is running rich or lean.

And yeah it would sound different, probably louder since a 13b will move more exhaust out of it. Just my guess.

And the effect not having a presilencer or glasspack installed will increase horsepower... by like one or two horsepower. Not enough of a reason to not put them on there considering the fact that you will regret not putting them on there.

damn is it really that loud? I had headers and straight 2 1/4" piping with dual dynomax mufflers and it was loud but reasonable. It helped alot as far as performance.

i have header with 2.5 piping and 2 magnaflows and it is by no means loud. don't try getting away with only one muffler.

I have a homemade header, 3" straight exhaust, and one dynomax 3" center inlet- 2x 2.5" outlets (if you look at the pics i posted of my car you can see and hear it). The tips are just to aim the noise away from sound booths at some road courses i go to. At full throttle at about 6.5-7 grand going around a corner passed the sound booth (with the tips pointing away from the sound booth) my exhaust is 101-102 decibels.

Normality Glitch- An exhaust plays a big part in how rich or lean a car is, nowhere nearly as much as jetting/fuel tuning but anything that increases airflow through a engine leans the car out, especially when a stock exhaust is as restrictive as ours.

Does a header make a huge difference in the amount of noise from the exhaust?
I have a stock manifold, heavy wall stainless pipe, and a powertech stainless muffler currently. The noise level is not too bad, other than at around 70-75MPH on the highway. It tends to be a little loud inside the car.
I just picked up a RB header and presilencer, but the presilencer cannot be used without completely reworking my pipe. A lack of tools to do this myself, and funds to have an exhaust shop do the work, has me thinking of just installing the header and hoping for no major increase in the noise level.
While I have never been a major fan of Racing Beat's full exhaust, due to the cost, I can definately say the header is built to last. That thing is HEAVY.

Oddly enough, log style manifold quiets the exhaust down more than all 3 cats. You can straight pipe the cats and have a nice sounding exhaust, once the cast mani is gone, all hell breaks loose.

Oh well. I guess the nieghbors will just hafta learn to live with it. Both of their civics have annoying fart cans, and stupid looking body kits. Too bad they are both automatics........

That's good info. It's tough to figure out how to make the exhaust sound right, given that it's pretty much a three box system!

One thing to remember: using the stock manifold means less horsepower benefit than replacing it with the RB header.

I came across this little tidbit by accident. One of the KC guys brought his car up for some work on it and I commented on how nice the exhaust sounded. All he had done was remove and straight pipe the cats. Granted it doesn't reap the full benefits of headers but it does sound good.

If it wasn't for the weight penalty, schedule 80/120 steam pipe would make a quieter and longer lasting exhaust system. When one upgrades the exhaust, thinner and bigger piping are the norm and that is where the resonance noise comes from.

anybody have this set-up because this is what I was looking to get for GSL-SE.

http://www.rx3mist.com/images/silencers.JPG

Is this a better set-up than single piping exhaust?

Does anyone know if the presilencer will bolt up to the road race header ? I remeber from my swap that the two pipes from the header were differnt lengths and lookinh at the presilencer it has only one inlet, I think I just confesed the myself again.
