Ive got one...Kinda...I think. I dont know if it works, but its sitting in my 84 GS if anyone wants it. Its not the original one from that car though. The guy I bought the car from said that he got it from a car in the junk yard and had the tape deck working but not the tuner. I was thinking maybe it was the wrong unit for the car so its missing some wires or something...Anyway, I have one that I would let go really cheap. I also have the pocket that goes under it if anyone is interested in it.

By the way....I know there is a wiring diagram somewhere that tells what each wire does and where each wire goes. Does anyone have it? I'd like to get a good look at it to see how I can wire up my amplifier, speakers, and subwoofer (someday).

BTW, a friend told me a 2nd gen stereo will plug right into the FB harness. You can snag one for free/cheap in most cases and then you even have a cd player.

85: You'll really want a modern head unit should you add all those pieces. If you do buy a unit, you'll get a wiring harness from a radio shop and each wire is labeled for its purpose.

Cool. Now I've got to figure out how to splice into the stock amp wiring to get at the speaker wires.

The speaker wires are all available under the rear bins.
just run 4 speaker wires there and then splice.

Don't bother using the stock amps with anything but a stock FB Radio.

The diagram is for an 84-85 stock radio. All I did was redo the text and straighten some lines in photoshop, because it started as a copied jpeg of a scan and the text was almost illegible.

why would you want one? the original equipment is ancient technology now; you will get far superior sound with even the cheapest of newer tape decks.

Put a $50 aftermarket one in; its there for the sound, not the looks.

Oh yeah you can have mine its broken

It was actually a great stereo, high quality components and state of the art for it's time. I'm almost sorry I couldn't wire in a hidden CD/MP3 player and feed 'em through the same speakers, keeping the stock EQ, radio, and tape deck.

Here's my setup,,don't laugh,, the 1982 clerion (stock)
pushbutton stereo, and the autoreverse tapedeck, all
the stock speakers. after repairing the tapedeck, all works good. and i have,,mind you, the 1986 gxl stereo.
the stereo/tapedeck/EQ/amps/speakers. I've had a sony
diskman for a while, well i use the tapedeck adapter and
plug the sony in,,and it works awesome..I'm not into
making my 7 a rolling concert. i like to hear the engine.
but my old, behind the times, analog,,ha,ha stereo is enough,,.. I'm a musican, so good sound is a must, my
home stereo is a different storie though... IMO

I like it.

I'm going to ad a modulated changer and put the controler in the ash tray and ad some infinity speakers. It will sound better than any $50 radio. And it will look god, and theves won't rip it off.

If any body try's to rip-off a stereo out of a 1st gen. they
don't realize just how well those units are installed.
the center would have to be destroyed. not just tag, bag, and run.
