stock 12A with weber

Hey folks,

I'm the middle of chosing a power plant. 13b weber or 12a weber. I already have the 12a short block (not the 13b), What i want is SIMPLE with good power. In order to run the weber carb setup, what do i need? I have a GSL but the stock carb is bad shape.

Thanks

-joe

If you already have the 12a, use it instead of spending money on another block, that is assuming that the block you have is in good shape. It would also be simpler to do 12a/weber, especially considering you already have the 12a.

Dunno how to setup a weber, I just picked up a new (to me at least) nikki for mine to get it running again, but Im sure someone else can help there.

A 12a with a weber, and a good exhaust, tuned right will give you some good power.

45DCOE weber in a 12a and a simple exhaust system with header and some nice tuning yields a top 150hp...

a 13B with the same mods hits close to 200hp...

your choice...

I got the 12a with weber, I'm happy...

All you need is a inlet manifold to suit the Weber you choose.

A 12A with a good exhaust and header can produce 150hp with a modified Nikki or a 45 DCOE. The stock port is the restriction. not the carb.

Not until you street port is the Weber a better choice, a 48 IDA would be my suggestion.

I was brought-up using Webers and think they are a great carb.and easy to tune. Slightly more difficult to get low idle and start from very cold. Not a problem for a competition car rather than a daily driver. iHowever, fitting one to a stock port will not give you more power than a cheap modded Nikki, but an advantage is getting rid of the rats nest.

A 13B in a carb form is only about 10% more powerful than a 12A, so you would be looking for around 170HP. At this level I think the 48 IDA would be better than a moddified Nikki. The 48 DCOE would be marginal.

Is the cost of a 13B replacement engine and the modifications needed to fit worth the power increase? My view is no.
