How's compression? Does it fire if you spray carb cleaner into the carb and then try to start it?

when I accidently make my car not want to start I just pour a couple tsp of oil down the intake and she starts right up. smokes for about a minute and by the time shes ready to go all the smoke is gone. Someone told me once to drop some atf but I rather use regular oil since that what I'm burning already anyway.

i had the same thing going on with my 84 the other day, it had spark, crank, and i thought fuel. The fuel bowls were full, but no gas through the rest of the carb.

if you pour gas down the carb does it run? or sputter at least?

How are your spark plugs? see if they are covered in gas or fouled up.

if none of that helps id say compression is to blame
