Still no Idle- soaked with starting fluid looking for vac leak and...

I got nothing... nothing no spark and couldn't find any leak went throuth two cans of starting fluid... I really checked everything. So I'm looking at this engine soaked with ether and I'm thinking... just a small spark from a loose plug wire... do you think the garage would catch fire also?... so i came inside instead to post a new thread. Please understand no mechanic including dealer will work on my 8412a with emissions removed. it ran fine until recently. I checked spark to plugs with timing light while turning over car and have good sparks on all four plugs. I've checked and tested the ignitors. New plug wires, new plugs, generally good engine. and I really have checked the vacuum lines. and I'm sure i followed directions for emissions removal. The carb is original but unknown condition(don't know if it's been rebuilt) gas filter replaced twice. filters in carb cleaned also. It just will not idle below about 2000rpm either with choke pulled or ading starting fluid it will race above that then die around 2000. I can't make it idle below that even temporarily. Rebuild carb ? light it on fire? any other suggestions?

SOunds like you need to remove the carb and manifold. Check the manifold gasket (replace if necessary).Check the mainfold to carb gaskets. Are you getting good fuel into the carb?

Three things required to run: fuel, compression and ignition. Usually problems are ignition, but it sounds like yours is OK (except I don't know if timing is right and I don't know how to static time the 7). Compression is easy to check and is probably OK. So it sounds like fuel. Check fuel pressure with a cheap guage from auto store to make sure it's pumping at low RPM. Squirt fuel in carb while it's runing and see if you can bring idle down.
