Still having smog issues. PLEASE HELP ME.

My smog numbers are like 1250 HC and 4.5 CO on idle and 117 HC and 1.6 CO on the 2500 rpm range. (This is while it's running hot, or warm, what ever) I just changed the plugs and wires, (I still haven't had it checked again) and run some cleaner through the engine. Is there anything else I should check, because my mechanick says that I might need a new carb. (Costs like $400.00 by the way.)

Oh, and I haven't checked the timing yet, so if you can tell me how to check that and/or adjust that, that would be great.

Well, I'm around Charleston and Durango, but if you think you can help, I'll gladly drop by.

um... tell me more about this mechanic? what is he basing a new carb on? You might just need to adjust it. If anything, you might need a new cat, but it's probably not the carb. but make sure your cat is good, your airpump, acv, and hook it up to a machine so you can fine tune the mixture. I think you can do a lot better by adjusting the mixture, note that leaner isn't nescessary better smog wise. otherwise, 2500 rpm looks good, it's just your idle that's off...

I should mention that my idle control isn't working. I can't change it from 1000 rpm. could that be from the california emisions set up on the car?

It was a vaccum leak, I fixed it thanks the the faq's page. I dropped it off yesterday at the mechanics and he's going to reset my timing and calibrate my carb, I just have to wait and see if that'll work.

Well........I just got off the phone with my mechanic. He fixed the problem and he said it was something internal in the carburetor. Long story short, it's going to cost me $321.66 to get my car back.

Anyone know how to make a quick $300?
