Stereo idea

I was thinking..... I have just purchased a new stereo and i want to put it into the dash but the hole is huge. so i could buy a kit but that just wastes space so i was thinking about building one out of aluminum or somethin so i could have a little cubbie hole type thing. what are your thoughts about that? If you dont like it then what would you suggest or what did you do?

as i am building an aluminum dash center piece with switches and guages and putting a small "glove box" in it, i was planning on putting my radio where the glove box is now. leaving it so i have fairly easy access to the radio. mounted in the door with some braces in the box. i have a sony with a remote that will reach but i only whis it would have a disc changer too

just go to circuit city and buy a kit for it. it fits perfect and has a littly cubby hole. that's what i did and it looks great. probably much better than anything i could build myself.

Yeah, you can buy that kit too. Also, FYI there was a stock cubby on certain trim levels, it was only a 1/2 DIN cubby or something though, I dont remember. I have one in a box somewhere. It came from my GS I think.

Yeah, I havent been around as much. Just poking in every now and then. Im actually trying to liquidate all the 7s, no time or money for them, and the county is all over us for having to many vehicals for the acerage or some shiat, so they need to go. I had planned on keeping just the one I recovered, but its getting pretty hammered by the elements from sitting. It had puddles of standing water under the storage bins the other day and mold everywhere, I assume from tons of condensation because its sealed up with a tarp over it. Unfortunatly the shop is full and it cant fit. Anyway, I think theyre all going away now. Ive got too much on my plate as it is. I also have a Toyota pickup thats gone through 2 junk yard engines now, and was my only transportation so once again Im left with nothing.

My 85' GS has the same thing, the oem opening is basically a double din. With a casset player taking 1 din slot, and the factory tunner taking a 1/2 din slot, and lastly an oem "cubbie" taking a 1/2 din slot. So when I put the aftermarket deck it was left with an extra 1/2 din from the oem tuner. Rather than putting another Half din cubbie, or 1 full size cubbie and having to buy a wasted addon piece, simply put in an equalizer. Fills the spot and has a use. ( some cost the same as aftermarket installation addon)
