VA Mod update

My original intentions of keeping the tape deck functional didn't go as planned, but in the end I got my ipod to function properly.

I found the only requirement for my unit to engage tape deck mode was for the right signal, left signals, and the shields to be grounded. I Supplied the R pin on the receiver cable with 12 volts, and the tape deck began to function. That wasn't right so Spliced the Bk and R pin on the cable with the 12 volt supply, and then everything began working.

Then I pushed in a tape and the entire system went down. It must have blown internal components inside the tape deck. So I scrapped the original plan. I had to bypass the tape deck power system, which required 12v to enter tape deck and then 12v back out to power the receiver.

I soldered the shields to ground, and then connected the signals to the appropriate wires.

This now allows me to play my stereo as normal, and when I plug in my ipod the receiver engages tape deck mode.

Does anyone know if by splicing 12 volts and the R and Bk pins on the receiver cable caused permanent damage or is there an easy fix. For now it is just for looks.

Amazon Amazon

only 20 bucks. plugs into your antennae directly so no need for interference. just flip the switch. done and done, in less time it took you to unplug the harness from your radio... and also a more viable option between models or hell any car. BTW my 85 GSL had the 3 din clarion option so yeah... besides the tape deck adapters nothing else works. cheers!
