Steering wheel quick release Size?

I bought a 5/8 quick release because of some of the forum research I did. It looks really small, is this the correct size for an 85' first gen? I have not taken off the steering wheel so I am just eye balling it now.

Don't know how you are attaching the quick release adapter, but if you don't want to weld directly to the steering shaft you can get one of these adapters for a Miata. Weld the quick release stub to a plate with holes drilled to bolt the plate to the Miata adapter.

Works Bell steering wheel hub adaptors NEW LOWER PRICES! MAZDA - MiataRoadster - High-performance customer service...and parts for Roadsters

I did that on my ITA first gen. Moves the steering wheel back a little farther too for tall-ish people.
