so all i need to do is purchase the rack & pinion...and its a direct bolt up and itll replace everything down there...b/c i can turn my wheel about 2 inches left or right before the tires start to move...and i thinik its b/c of the linkage system not working properly....so the R&P will fix this?....thanks...parker

Getting all new stock components is much cheaper and gives you a pretty amazing change from all the old worn out stuff. It's not the instant steer of rack and pinion, but with all the stuff buzzing around about the CP Rack maybe not being worth the cash, and the extra-long wait time, I'd just stick with stock.
I got most of my parts through the victoriabritish catalogue (order one at www.victoriabritish.com if you haven't already). They are currently out of pitman arms so I had to source one through a local part place. Not too hard.
All in all it's going to cost me about five hundred canadian to do the entire linkage. Pretty cheap.
Inner and Outer Tie Rods
Adjusting Sleeve with Nuts
Idler Arm
Pitman Arm
Ball Joints (I almost forgot these)
Control Arm Bushings
Front end links w/ bushings
Tension Rod Bushings
And it's well worth the investment.
Save yourself the cash, and get a good replacement linkage. Hell, for that price, you could still buy a rebuild steering box if yours was really bad and STILL be cheaper than the R&P.

You can repair the stock steering box to reduce the "slop" in the steering, but yes the R&P kit will fix this PERMANENTLY
I've played with the CP testbed car, and the steering is sweet!
I think the only stock piece you keep are the tie-rod ends... but I gotta double check that tommorow...

if you are doing the work yourself...i might recommend rebuilding the steering box yourself...not a very hard task, it involves removal of the steering column...which is the kinda shitty part but...doesn't look too hard. the factory service manual gives you a good idea of how it can be done if you'd like to check it out. theres 3 main adjustments that u have to make and maybe replace a couple shims. Quite worth it if you are going to do it yourself considering you will probably only spend a couple dollars on parts and ur gonna need a good torque wrench. it's one of my projects for this summer. Personally, about the CP rack and pinion setup...i don't find the reviews by the people who have it as making it an attractive buy although i was all over the idea when i first heard about it.
