Question Is a steering gear box rebuild kit worth doing?

undefinedundefinedundefined

First Time, sorry if this looks wrong.

Has anyone ever rebuilt their steering gear box? Is the kit worth it or will it just wear out quickly?

you might want to try this first.

if that doesn't work, then look for a good box from a junkyard car.

I've been reading up on it and have seen a number of people who say adjusting only works for a little while. Have you done the adjustment and had it last?

my box doesn't have a lot of play, but my understanding is that if you follow the adjustment and do it completely (not just play with the top nut), it will last for a while. plus, that's the harm in trying.

It is possible to make the adjustment while the box is on the car, but can be difficult especially if you have a/c or p/s.

Where in Michigan are you located?
