Steering Box Worn out

Gentlemen,

Have 1983 Rx7, does anyone refurbish the steering boxes. Mazda sells no parts any more and wants $795.00 for the entire column and box.

There must be a better way. Every thing in the local bone yards seem to have the same problem.

Thanks for any ideas.

Best rtegards,
THC

Have you tried properly adjusting it?

83-85 boxes are very durable and rarely wear out to the point of no return. Learn to adjust it before you scrap it.

Before I knew about this I purchased a new sector shaft for my box it was freaking $500!

Follow that procedure in the link above and you will be ok

Peejay,

Thanks for the direction. I have printed the article and will get to this chore ASAP! Have many other issues to contend with on the car.

I hope I have not damaged the unit as I did tryto adjust it several months ago.

Best regards,
THC

The one I had the 14 mm nut on top was tightened so much by the previous owner, the stud had sheered off inside under the top... Theres was no way other than replacement of the sector shaft
