steering

I have searched and can not find answers to my questions. I have the haynes manual but I am still confused. I am slightly confused about how our steering works. More directly towards the 85 GSL. Obviously non power steering. In the haynes manual and under hood I see 2 idler arms. On, "how stuff works" they show one idler arm for common manual steering systems. Which is dandy. I am used to rack and pinons and this confuses me for what ever reason. There are two tie rods correct? Why are they labeled inner and outer? On rack and pinon there are a total of 4 tie rods. (2 inner and 2 outer) How many idler arms do we have? 2? (when you pull on the (I believe track arm?) Is there supposed to be like two inches of play vertically?) The pitman arm essentially connects the steering box to the entire system?
I want to rebuild my steering system because I don't trust it. I want to replace it with Moog parts from rock auto. What do I need and how much of each? I promise I have searched, I will continue searching until I find answers to my questions.

1 Pitman Arm
1 Idler Arm
2 Inner Tie Rods
2 Outter Tie Rods

Check out the exploded view on this page and it should help you visualize how it all goes together:

Also download your own copy of the 1985 Factory Service Manual here by each section [I recommend right clicking and saving as trying to straight up open it might take a while] Haynes manuals are well...crap for the most part.

Two pages just chock full of information for you : https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/replacing-idler-arm-785410/

One of the better threads I've seen on the subject, it will teach you damn near everything you need to know about the front end of your car. Should probably be required reading for all.

Thank you DarrenTRS and Kentetsu. I was confusing the pitman arm with an idler arm. I still don't understand why I need two inner and two outer tie rods?

On a rack & pinion steering you would just have outer rods, but since there's no rack, there are inner tie rods that go to the center link.

Inner tie rods in green, outer in blue:
